Speed Reading in How to Get Started

How to get started speed readers has the same rule that applies to everyone. For the most part you want to find a comfortable space to read, as well as set a workable time to read. Once you set your time and space, you will find it easier to relax while reading. One thing you want to avoid is slouching on the couch, or reading in bed. Reading in bed or slouching will only slow your progress while reading.

To get started you will need reading material. You want to pick out your favorite reading, as well as topics that interest you. As well, you want to choose easy to read material to increase time and comprehension.

Now that you have the basics, all you need to do next is practice. You want to practice every day to speed read; since practice will help you advance. Practice builds vocabulary, as well as augments your comprehension in what you read. You will also learn to read faster as you practice each day.

One of the things I did often in school was to pass tests and pass them in 10 to 15 minutes tops. I blew the minds of many professors and teachers throughout my school year. How I did this was not through preparation, rather becoming familiarized with what I was intended to read and test on. Familiar text will help you read much faster, and later you can move toward complex material. To help you see how familiar and easy materials increase speed, while complex reading slows you down we can consider a few tests.

Simple:
The cars went zooming past the large building, when Troy spotted the old man pushing the cart.

Complex:
Hemorrhoids:
Hemorrhoids are dilated and congested external or internal vessels which form around the anus. According to etiology, hemorrhoids stem from heavy lifting, straining stools, heredity, and obesity, infections of the rectum, pregnancy, and so forth. Pathophysiology states that increasing abdominal pressures can impair the flow of the blood, which causes hemorrhoid venous plexus.

Now, if you are familiar with medical terminology, thus the second sentence would prove easier reading for you. However, if you are not, thus the first paragraph is the choice you want to read while practicing speed reading.

Preparing can also help you to read faster. When you begin speed reading, try to review information before reading. You want to look at the title, subtitle, lists, charts, graphics, pictures, and so forth to get an idea of what you are about to read. This will help you move along the text with greater ease.

If your want to improve your rate of recognition, keep in mind that reading each day will build comprehension. Overall, recognition is the rate in which you are able to understand the information you read. If your recognition rate is low, likely you will read material at a slower pace. Thus, building recognition can help you read faster and with greater ease. We can test your recognition speed by producing a series of numbers.

You want to touch the numbers in sequence as fast as you can.

Ready:
12 10 4 3
9 11 6 8
5 7 1 2

If it took you 9-seconds to touch the numbers in sequence, then your eyes span and recognition is on the advantage mark. If it only took you around five or six minutes, then you have excellent recognition and speed. Still, you can improve through practice. If it takes you less than a couple of seconds you would had advanced your recognition, which improves your speed.
