Testing in How to Speed Read

When you perform tests to check your comprehension level and rate of reading it helps to promote a set mind that will help you achieve. If you are learning how to speed-read, you want to start out slow and gradually work up. Keep in mind that speed-readers estimate their rate on a flexible scale. Speed-readers are aware that some material poses roadblocks, which can slow reading. Thus, speed-readers do not stress over rate, rather they work with the mind set to increase speed on flexible scale.

Some of the tests that help speed-readers increase rate of reading include the progress profile charts. The charts help them to keep track of their rate of reading, as well as what the reader gets from the material. While I can show you a sample chart that may work for me, it takes you to decide the chart style that will work for you. Still, a sample can give you a visual that can put you on track.

Rate of Reading: Seconds Minutes: Divided by 7080 Comprehension_______
Reading Rate #1:
Reading Rate #2:

If you prefer to add, what you read into the chart, or the date and time of reading you can design a chart to fit your needs. Charts are helpful to assist you in keeping up with your progress. When you know your progress, it helps to boost inspiration, self-esteem, and reading rates.

To help you see how rates per minute works, or else comprehension reading we can consider a few samples.

Sentence:
The town was small, yet the crime rate was high. After so many years people are wondering what is, the world coming to, especially since nowadays even in the smallest town no one is truly safe. With the world changing and the government letting everyone down, people today are forgetting family, friends, and morale, and moving to worry about world disaster.

Time:
Sixty-One Word Count: 15 Seconds 15 divided by 7080 = 472: so, we have 15 seconds of reading at 472 words per minute. This is our actual reading rate.

Comprehension Level:
We see crime rate increasing in smaller towns. We see change causing the rates of crime to increase. We see poor leadership, and drops in family and human values.

The comprehension level is in good standings. Thus, our rate of speed and comprehension is going great, but how can we increase the rate? Could we increase comprehension level?

We can increase rate, as well as comprehension level. If we wanted to, we could pull out more insight from the short sentence.

To increase rate we could have reviewed the information before reading. Review can help clarify words and information, which promotes gain.

We can perform another test to see how to improve our rate of reading and comprehension level. Do not forget to review the information before reading the sentences.

Sentence:
Diabetes is causing enormous problems for many. Down through the centuries new medicines has come to our attention, yet the FDA and government is not ready to mention potential cures to those suffering the mother of all diseases. Insurance companies are even hiding information that can help those suffering diabetes live a more productive life.

Rate of reading:
Word count: 55: 10 seconds divided by 7080 = 780: Notice our words per minute increased instead of decreased at 10 seconds.

Comprehension level:
Diabetes seems to be harming scores of people. We see that medicine exists, yet the government and insurance companies are withholding new discoveries. Diabetes seems to be causing other diseases.

Certainly we can continue to increase, but realize when you reach a rating of 60 seconds, 118 words per minute, you are then reading at a high ratio in speed-reading.
